WFI by membrane

Since 2017, the Pharmacopoea Europaea (Ph. Eur.) authorises the generation of Water for Injection not only by distillation (Multi-Effect or Vapour Compression), but by membrane processes as well. This new regulatory situation hosts big challenges and opportunities to save water and energy.

With Pharmaplan’s appropriate experiences we support you in revamping and new projects of Purified Water and Water for Injection generation, storage and distribution.

water and steam system

Beyond energy and water economies, the new technology allows substantial cost savings. Given the possibility to produce only WFI, a step towards simplicity in project engineering, installation time and maintenance is possible.

The company BWT has analysed the cost reduction based on WFI by membrane and published the following results for its own product OSMOTRON® WFI:

Comparison of the costs per m3 wfi

The figures show a clear trend
