ISPE Award “Facility of the Year 2020 – Equipment Innovation”
This year’s prize in the category “Equipment Innovation” went to F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG In-Vivo Research project in Basel “B098: Setting the new standards for an in vivo building”. This was the first time the prize was awarded to an in vivo research and laboratory building. “The new In vivo building brings innovation to one of the lesser understood parts of the pharmaceutical discovery and development process. The equipment innovation that is found in every part of the project aims to protect researchers and animals, drive efficiency, and set new industry standards for animal research,” the jury said.
Pharmaplan in Switzerland was responsible as general planner for the engineering (process design / plant technology, laboratory & vivarium, HVAC, automation) and the coordination (electrical, ventilation, construction / architecture) of this highly flexible and highly automated research and laboratory facility.
Above all, the modular laboratory concept, which allows for customizable conversion within only two weeks, the fully automated handling and cleaning of the cages and the well-thought-out use of AGVs are highlights of the building.
